Geographically, Jehanabad is located between 24"15' and 27"31'N (latitude), 83"20' and 88"19'E (longitude) at an altitude of 54 M from mean sea level. With its headquarter at Jehanabad town, it covers the total land area of 1569 sq. km. accommodating 15,11,406 people as human population. It consists of seven Blocks namely Jehanabad, Kako, Modanganj, Makhdumpur, Ghosi and Hulasganj, Ratni Faridpur. From North-East-South to West, the area under Jehanabad district touches the boundary of Patna, Nalanda, Gaya and Arwal districts.

On the basis of the topography of the land, soil type and farming systems, the Jehanabad district is under NARP zone-III(B) of South Bihar Alluvial Plain-West. The soil of this district is mainly loamy, clay in texture with low to moderatly high organic matter content. The climate of this region is sub-humid, sub-tropical Monsoon type. Rains starts as monsoon establishes in the mid of June. Average annual rain fall is within 1100 mm, average air temperature ranging between 240 and 260 C, the soil temperature and moisture regimes of this region being hyperthermic and ustic respectively.

The farming system of this district is mostly traditional and majority of farmers use traditional varieties of seed with unbalanced and indiscriminate use of chemical fertilizers as well as pesticides resulting gradual degradation of soil and relatively lower average production per unit area. Distributaries of the seasonal rivers, underground water brought out through electric and diesel pumps, tanks as well as ponds, besides some rain fed seasonal canals, are the major source of irrigation. Rice, Wheat and Rice-Pulse (Gram, Lentil, Lethyrus, Peas) are the major cropping patterns in this district. However, Sugarcane, Oil seeds, Maiz, Vegetables and fodder crops are also grown in the district, but in limited area. In fact, the highly fertile plane land of the district is either being poorly or under utilized or we can say misutilized.
